Experience - Scott D Jones - Toledo, Ohio

Currently I work for a company www.impactemployment.com located in the heart of downtown Toledo half a block from the Lucas County Arena and half a block from the Mud Hens Stadium.  We are a staffing company with the major part of our business in General Labor or the peripheral workforce.  My main goal as a Staffing Consultant is to make sure that clients understand that their workforce no longer should be looked at as a fixed cost.  Why pay all the over head of adding and removing employees from your payroll?  With this Website I plan to blog about current market trends and share insight of my experiences in the world of staffing.

In the past I have had the opportunity to experience a multitude of different workplaces.  The positions I have held led me in the direction in deciding what was for me and what was not for me.  Each job was a stepping stone to my life guiding me to the ultimate goal of my success.

Training and Supervising employees at a large international shipping company happened to be my favorite endeavor in my college career.  I trained many individuals in the 3 years that I spent at that company.  Each person was another goal and obstacle for me to hurdle over.  This position helped me develop the interpersonal communication skills to motivate individuals and lead a group of people to a common goal.  During my tenure there we were ranked as the number one facility worldwide, in customer service, every year.  We all worked extremely hard which fueled the competition to be the best in that facility.  When I left I had six supervisors that I had trained from day one, more than any other training supervisor in the entire building.

My next position happened to be my sales internship and was unmistakably the hardest job mentally that I have ever had to face.  I constantly pounded the pavement receiving my leads the morning of the appointment working from home as a satellite office.  This position was 100% commission and I had to pay for gas and any expenses I may incur myself.  My territory included downtown Detroit in which I traveled to every single day.  This position taught me extreme patience since I dealt with all residential accounts.  I had two days of training and then they sent me off on my own with a window sample into strangers houses usually primarily in low income housing areas.  Like I said the most difficult position mentally I have ever faced.  Although it was very challenging I did manage to sell over $115,000 in windows in a matter of 2 months.

Finally I had graduated college and I went out to the real world.  I worked as a Sales Representative for a technological firm.  We sold servers, internet connections, and backup space worldwide.  This position helped me learn a technical aspect that I would have never even dreamed of when I first graduated college.  While working in my first real sales role I made a lot of valuable connections and this is the first position that I started utilizing business afterhours.  Networking and developing long lasting relationships with clients played a major role in this type of business environment.  Attending networking events and getting involved with different groups such as the Toledo Chamber and EPIC helped me reach a whole new avenue of business opportunities.  The relationships I built I still utilize to this day.

Then I started in the Staffing Industry working for an international staffing firm known worldwide.  With this position not only did I work in Business Development but I was responsible for recruiting quality candidates to excel in the opportunity that I had open.  Each week I was held accountable for reaching my goals and obtaining my objectives.  My goal was to make over 125 connections in which I had to build my business on as well as make 12 client visits to help build the relationships.  Everything was going well and I was exceeding my hours as well as my goals every week up until our economy come to a sudden halt.  As we were slowly losing business to a dyeing economy we continued to meet our goals and objectives.  Knowing that once things turned around our success would depend on the connections and relationships we had developed and maintained during our economic struggle.  In this position I learned how to stay focused and utilize all of the workday and multitask as many times in this position it would be very easy to lose focus on other assignments.
